Why a Catholic Education?

Parents have many decisions to make, and one of the most important concerns their child’s/children’s education. There are several choices available to parents when considering early childhood and elementary education and each family makes a personal choice based on their circumstances and goals.

As the principal of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Academy, I would like to share my thoughts on the importance of choosing a Catholic education.

First and foremost, a Catholic academy is so much more than just a school: it is a faith-based community of students, parents, teachers and staff. It is a safe caring community, where the virtues and values of Jesus are both taught and practiced. From Pre-K to Grade 8 our students learn compassion, which is so needed in today’s world.

We see the practice of our faith as essential to family life and the spiritual and emotional growth of our students. In a Catholic academy children have the wonderful opportunity to study Catholic doctrine, attend Mass and pray with their teachers and peers. The importance of parents as their child’s first teacher is recognized and parents are encouraged to share their faith with their child.

In addition to the focus on religion and values, we also emphasize academic excellence. Our teachers, who are dedicated to their students, are knowledgeable, hardworking, nurturing and supportive. These teachers work with the students, parents and administration to ensure that each student attains his or her individual potential. Teaching is a profession, but teaching in a Catholic school or academy is a vocation as well.

There are many other reasons to choose Catholic education for your child. I have touched on the three that I feel are the most important. I invite you to think about them and their importance in the future success and happiness of your child.
